From the time the fund was launched in October 12, 2005 to the present, the Save & Learn Equity Fund (SALEF) has consistently outperformed all the equity mutual funds in the Philippine mutual fund industry. This is testament to FAMI’s capability to create value not just during the good times, but at all times.
SALEF was launched at a time when the market was already in an uptrend. Despite having to contend with other funds that already had momentum on their side, SALEF was able to outperform all the equity mutual funds in the Philippine market. During the bull run of 2006 to mid-2007, not only did SALEF outperform other funds in its category, it outperformed them consistently and convincingly – outpacing the second placer by a good 12.6%.
The capabilities of fund managers can best be measured during the bear markets. When the global crisis hit in the last quarter of 2007, SALEF showed resiliency by continuing to outperform its peers. It finished 2008 in the number 2 position behind United Fund (the worst performer during the bull run). The No. 3 performer was over 11% behind SALEF.
